Why Cleanse?

Stop and take a moment to think about all of the toxins you come in contact with every day. Non-organic foods, skin care, cleaning products, pollution, medication, alcohol, refined sugar, saturated fats, second hand cigarette smoke, and even your thoughts. All of these nasties will sit and cause damage if you don't help your body out, and assist it to cleanse. Our bodies are constantly working around the clock, and without supporting them, we are setting ourselves up to fail! 

On a side note, the reason I use the word 'cleanse' over 'detox' , is because I feel like detox has almost become a dirty word. Tainted by celebrity fads and marketing campaigns, I associate it with confusion and lettuce leaves. (Poor lettuce!) When in actual fact, it can be simple, and the principles can be applied to your life every single day!

  • Stimulates the liver to operated more effectively and rid our bodies of toxins
  • Refuels the body and gives it a 'fresh start' 
  • Promotes healthy elimination

  • Healthier menstrual cycle and can assist in improving fertility 

Here are 7 ways you can introduce cleansing practices into your day, today!

1. Eat more from the earth

Eliminating processed foods from your diet will allow your digestive system to function better, and help to maintain mental and emotional clarity. Rather than providing your body with poison, and you can provide it with fuel!

2. Start your day with lemon, apple cider and warm water

Before anything else, I start my day with this little drink. It helps to gently awaken my digestive system and also kick-starts my liver into ridding the toxins. Squeeze the juice of a quarter of a lemon, and a dash of apple cider vinegar into a glass of warm water (not boiling- it will kill the nutrients!) and drink up!

3. Drink more water

You've heard this one before! But drinking lots of purified water helps to keep your body running at optimum. It also allows for flushing out toxins, and easier pooping. 

4. Lay off the sugar

There is so much evidence to show the damage refined sugar has on our body. This stuff is so addictive and does all sorts of awful things to our inside. There are loads of delicious recipes for healthy sweets that you can find online- so there's no need to miss out! Cut it out, and don't look back. 

5. Deep. Slow. Breathes. 

Practicing deep breathing will help you engage in the present moment, push out the carbon dioxide, and help you to maintain healthy thoughts. 

6. Dry Body Brushing 

I dry body brush every day for a few minutes before I shower. It stimulates lymphatic drainage, circulation and helps with cellulite. It also helps to keep your skin feeling soft and supple. Stay tuned for a 'how to do' in the coming weeks.

7. Get Grounding

Every time our body is in touch with the earth, we leach out radiation. It also helps us to connect, and be present, and is another way to increase mental clarity. So take your shoes off and spend some time in your yard, go for a walk on the beach or do some yoga outside (my personal favourite!)
