Tell us a little bit about you

My name is Samantha Cannon, I’m 22 years old and I’m a born and bread Gold Coast girl. I have been professionally modelling over the past 6 years which has given me many wonderful opportunities to live all over the world. I love travelling; I love exploring new places and learning about different cultures. I’m very active and love the sunshine! 

How did you get here? Was there a moment where everything changed?

I started practicing yoga when I was 16. I just loved the feeling of waking up my body! The flow and energy of a yoga class simply makes me happy; especially how great you feel afterwards.  I studied Health & Fitness in 2012 purely for my own personal interest to gain knowledge about how the body works.

Early 2014 I arrived home after spending 4 months living in Los Angeles and decided I wanted to stay put and have a little break from travelling. (Also my amazing partner proposed to me when I arrived home J. No better reason to stay home and spend some time with my man)

Things started just falling into place after this. I was asked to teach a yoga class for an opening day of a new Personal Training Studio, which I happily accepted!

I now run all my own yoga, pilates and bootcamp classes out of the same studio.

What does a regular day look like for you?

First things first… Coffee. When I am busy I am always SO busy! I generally have a modelling shoot throughout the day or castings and then come home and head to teach my YOGA+SCULPT classes.  If I have a day off I catch up on all the regular things; grocery shopping, emails, cleaning, walking the dog, cooking!

What are your favourite ways to get active?

YOGA is definitely number 1! I think just getting outside and enjoying the day is the best way to get active. Whether it be walking the dog, a bike ride, a walk on the beach, or taking out my stand up paddle board.

What are the three most important things that you do each day?

1. Sun Salutation in the morning to wake up and start the day feeling energised and ready to take on anything.

2. I know breakfast is the most important meal of the day but I LOVE DINNER! After a big day I think it’s important to have a yummy substantial dinner. So making dinner is important and fun for me.

3. Lastly just being grateful of the day. Talking to my partner about my day.

In your eyes what does a Whole Housewife look like?

I would say someone with a positive energy and outlook on life; someone who makes others happy just by being themselves.

It’s my dream to …

I would love to one day in the future host a yoga retreat overseas in Hawaii or Bali. Also open a yoga/café/bookstore/juice space! But I truly just dream to live each day being happy.

I believe that…

If you’re happy within yourself don’t let anyone bring you down or let you think differently. I also believe everything happens for a reason. If it doesn’t feel fair at the time it can only make you grow stronger and wiser.

Today I’m grateful for…

That at 6pm I get to go to my YOGA+SCULPT studio and teach pilates and yoga!

For a better tomorrow we must …

Not dwell on the past. ‘Inhale the future. Exhale the past.’

What is your favourite meal of the day? 

I love dinner!! My favourite food is salmon. I love smoked salmon and avocado in the mornings and I love cooked salmon at dinner time.

What’s the best piece of advice you’ve been given?

When I was 18 years old I was living in India. It was my first time travelling internationally by myself and I think my experiences and time spent in India has totally shaped who I am today. It opened my eyes to a whole different world. But my wise words where from my modelling agent; he said ‘Never compare yourself to anyone else.’ And I never will forget that.

Another piece of advice I learnt when I was around 18 years old was ‘You don’t need negative people in your life, surround yourself with people that make you happy and inspire you.’


Yoga poses to keep the mind strong and determined

Tree Pose 

Work on your balance, find your centre, concentrate. 

Plank Pose 

Mind over matter! Every time you want to stop hold for another 10 seconds! Your body can do amazing things if you mind will let it. 

Crow Pose 

Trust your arm strength, improve balance… DETERMINATION. This pose is always a great goal to have in yoga. Plus once you achieve it you can introduce advance variations. 

Eagle Pose 

One of my favourites!! It’s so beneficial to the body. Helps improve circulation, strengthens the feet and ankles. Find balance and focus.

Headstand 

Calm the mind, improve core strength and you need determination and practice to achieve this one.
